Today the Jobach group presented to our BCE lecturers as well as Mike from the Karangahape Road business association and other two other stake holders.
Joe created this cute logo for our group.
I believe we as a team presented well and were concise to our aim and concept idea. I am really happy with my personal presentation.
This is a summarised version of my part of the presentation:
“Our concept idea revolves around short video clips of around 20 to 40 seconds long collaborated within a paperback zine and secondly within an interactive kiosk.”
“You may have seen the interactive directories in malls or airports just like these (refer to slides) but I know you have all seen the Mc Donalds touch screen menus. Our project is to create and interactive kiosk guide to K road. This will be a information architecture map with stories of characters and business owners of the area.”
“We were hugely inspired by this project by the an Australian television company called ‘The Block : Stories from a meeting place.’ Everleigh street in Australia was a ‘run down’ aborigine community where residents were interviewed and history explained.” (I also made a short clip of a tutorial of the block application)
“We were hugely inspired by the block and their production process. Here is a quote that we feel is hugely relevant to our project and is also our motivation.
“For decades, the Block has been plagued by stories of drugs, crime and tragedy, but there have been other, richer stories as well. The goal of this production was to capture the heart and spirit of a place that cannot be summed up by one story or one narrative, but many.”
“We want to present an interactive application like the block that showcases personality of Karangahape road but also using technology to encourage Kroad to be relevant to our future.”
Here is our full google slide presentation.
Here is the final handout that I made and printed our to all the accessors.
We also gave out M&Ms to everyone viewing.
Today was only my second time on K road besides the day we went to art space, however this is the first day I really explored K road.
Obviously K road has many stereotypes but I found it so informing and eye opening to actually spend time and investigate K road, although I felt like a tourist I was very pleasantly surprised.
I was intrigued by the contrasts in architecture from old historical churches to tagged run down buildings then to the iron bank building which is very modern and corporate. I took photos of this in order to perhaps inspire different project focus angles.
My photographs also feature many art pieces in particular typography. I loved the typography art pieces because they are art pieces in themselves with lovely colours and styles but also they also have an extra meaning from the actual written interpretation.
My favourite place on K road to date would have to be myers park. I loved the old english style with marble floors, larges stained glass windows and lampposts. But it also incorporated the modern into the street with light boxes and shop signs, and the matchbox studio bright watermelon colours, the two contrasting styles are a nice pairing.
